Oxford Safety Components were approached by a large German mineral producer after they identified our Pit protection product as the best solution for protecting workers around their pits. The client, recognised globally as a leading producer of lime, dolomite and other minerals, was founded in the late 1800s, and is now present in 25 countries worldwide, with international sales totalling €400.14m (£363.55m).
The company had identified a need for greater protection around inspection pits in their limestone production facility. Though they had an existing protective system in place around inactive pits in the form of large metal grates, this was not meeting their needs in terms of usability and health and safety.
Despite their mainland Europe location, the client sought out Oxford Safety Components directly following a Google search.After discussing their needs with us, the client decided that the PitProtect system was the perfect solution. Once measurements were provided, 12 PitProtects (six per pit) were supplied.
Though originally designed for automotive inspection pits, the durability and adjustable design of the PitProtect makes it ideal for a variety of tasks, and the concertina action means it can be deployed and stowed quickly and easily.
The straightforward installation process also means clients can install the cover themselves with minimal effort.The newly designed 2019 version of the PitProtect trellis system is fully adjustable in both width and length, which eliminated the need for costly bespoke designs and site inspections. The cover solutions could be quickly supplied and installed easily by the client’s own engineers.
Though the covers were delivered immediately, COVID-19 meant there was a slight delay of around four months before they could be installed by the client. However, once in place, the feedback was glowing. One operative said the system was ‘very easy to install’, and ‘completely fulfilled their expectations.’ The buyer themselves reported that the reaction to the system from operatives was ‘exclusively positive’, and they wouldn’t change a thing.
