Oxford Safety Components supplied an effective roof access solution to one of the country’s leading roofing contractors to help tackle a particularly challenging leaky roof.
The roofing contractor, based in Billericay, was asked by their client - a funeral care provider in Canterbury - to carry out gulley cleaning on their roof. The gulley was blocked and overflowing, causing damage, and other attempts to stem or fix this temporarily had failed.
Our client prides itself on being one of the leading roofing contractors in the UK, able to provide a full range of roofing maintenance, and quickly. To that end, they approached us to provide a system which would allow them to tackle this challenge.
The Project
After our client visited the site, they discovered the roof of the commercial building was a double-pitched asbestos type. Usually, a mobile elevated work platform or scaffolding would be used, however, these options were not feasible on the roof in question. Scaffolding in particular would have likely caused damage to the structure.
After consulting with our client, we suggested a one day hire of our TreadLite temporary fall arrest and roof access solution. Built from strong but lightweight aluminium, the system is purpose-designed for use on fragile roofs, protecting operatives from falls through or over the edge of roofs, without damage to the roof itself.
We were able to deliver the solution to site and also carry out training and installation on the same day.

The Result
Delivery and training was carried out promptly, allowing the client’s team to get on with the work without further delays. Within a day, the work was complete, and the gulley was cleaned and sealed to prevent further damage to the premises.
Following the project, we received a glowing recommendation from our client’s Technical Support Manager, a 40-year veteran of fragile roof work, who told us he had never felt so safe on a fragile roof before. This was fantastic praise, and great to hear. At Oxford Safety Components, the safety and wellbeing of our customers when carrying out work is our highest priority.
