Established in 1999, Global Marine Group is a specialist provider of installation, maintenance, and repairs for submarine communications cables. With a focus on the telecommunications, oil & gas, and deep-sea research industries, the company has built a reputation for excellence in offshore engineering.
Global Marine Group approached our Sales Executive, Carrie-Anne Blunsden, after connecting with us at the Safety and Health Exhibition in November 2023. Their goal was to enhance safety during maintenance works on their vessels, specifically to prevent falls into open voids.
The crewmembers faced difficulties while conducting maintenance work in the tanks, particularly due to many closely spaced lightning ports. An incident occurred earlier when a crewmember tripped into a ballast tank, resulting in an injury. This highlighted the need for a solution that ensures fall prevention and improves crew safety.
After discussing the requirements with Global Marine Group, we recommended using CoverSafe Spark mats. These mats are specifically designed for work in tight spaces and can fit through portals. Additionally, the non-slip properties of the mats make them ideal for laying on steel flooring.
The CoverSafe Spark by Oxford Safety is an innovative and expandable safety platform designed to prevent falls through attic openings. This durable walkway or work area provides a secure surface, ensuring the safety and stability of workers in potentially hazardous environments.
Made with GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic), the CoverSafe Spark is not only lightweight and easily transportable but also insulated to protect against electrical dangers. Its flexible and extendable design allows easy installation and customisation, making workplace safety implementation hassle-free. With its emphasis on real-world examples and clear organisation, the CoverSafe Spark is a reliable solution for professionals seeking expertise and compliance in attic safety. Take action to prioritise safety and prevent accidents by incorporating the CoverSafe Spark into your work environment. Stay informed, stay protected.
Global Marine Group initially ordered two CoverSafe Spark mats to address the immediate safety concerns in their vessels. These mats were effectively deployed, preventing falls into open voids. Furthermore, the exposed areas with ports were cordoned off to ensure complete safety. Impressed with the results, Global Marine Group plans to roll out the solution across their fleet and order two mats per vessel in 2024.
By implementing Oxford Safety Components' CoverSafe Spark matting, Global Marine Group has successfully improved safety during maintenance works on their vessels. Our solution not only enhances fall prevention but also addresses the challenges posed by closely spaced lightning ports. We are proud to have collaborated with Global Marine Group on this project and look forward to continuing our partnership in ensuring safety across their operations.
