Oxford Safety Components was approached by an international airline for help resolving a risk to their workers during the refurbishment of their aircraft.
The client, a large airline that has been carrying out regular international flights for almost 50 years, approached us after hazards were identified during the refurbishment of their aircraft.
During repairs and maintenance, the aircraft would be stripped to allow access to all areas of the plane, notably in the bathrooms, where urine from passengers would erode the framework.
As can be seen in the picture, once stripped, the structure of the plane posed a real fall hazard to workers, as well as potential electrocution risk.
The client sought out OSC due to our reputation for designing and supplying flexible and adaptable safe access solutions that minimise the risk of falls and electrocution as standard.
The combination of fall risk and electrocution made this a particularly difficult challenge for the client to overcome safely. However, after an expert assessment, we identified the CoverSafe Spark as the ideal solution for the client’s needs.
The CoverSafe Spark is an insulated mat with a trellis design, allowing it to quickly expand and cover a range of voids, and provide a safe working platform for maintenance and repair tasks. The composite plastic design guarantees stability, while eliminating the possibility of electric shocks from wiring and more. With a max spread load of 150kg at a total weight of 10kg, the system is mobile yet effective.
Thanks to its anti-electrocution and sturdy design, it tackled both of the client’s issues, maximising the safety and efficiency of their workers during the refurbishment of their airliners.
Initially, the client rented several CoverSafe Spark mats from us. After using the product for a few months, they returned to us and asked to buy the units they had been using.
