Oxford Safety Components, together with Kee Safety Group was chosen by one of Europe’s leading concrete specialists to help guarantee the health and safety of the workers at their Hungarian site.
The Problem
The client, based in Hungary, are concrete specialists in the design, production, and assembly of precast concrete structures and industrial flooring. Since being established over 30 years ago, the client has become a European leader in the industrial concrete construction market.
The need for prefabricated concrete holes, or ‘pockets’, to clamp pillars when constructing new buildings posed a potential trip and fall risk to workers. Before approaching us, the client was using pallets to cover these pockets in the concrete foundations. Though this simple fix was relatively effective, it wasn’t suitable long-term. Wood can rot, and the pallets had the potential to shift out of place.
The client puts huge emphasis on ensuring their work environments are safe and healthy, and encourages employees to carry out work in a safe manner. With that in mind, the company’s health and safety team knew a more permanent solution was required.
The Solution
The project came around after the client’s health and safety manager saw a LinkedIn post about our unique trellis systems. In particular, he thought the CoverSafe Trench and CoverSafe Access systems would be the ideal solution to the client’s needs.
The CoverSafe range is our expandable trellis collection. Helping to arrest falls around voids and access chambers, the CoverSafe Access is easy to install and can be easily fixed in place, providing a safe working platform.
The CoverSafe Trench is perfect for longer or larger voids and excavations, allowing for work to be carried out without blocking access or visibility to the underneath. The unique, super-strong GRP trellis design of both systems allows them to expand to meet almost any challenge, keeping workers safe and compliant to health and safety legislation.
Best of all, our CoverSafe systems are non-permanent and lightweight, allowing them to be easily moved around sites to where they’re most needed.
This project was particularly exciting as it was a new application for these products and just goes to show how adaptable our systems are!
The Result
Several systems were supplied to the client for use on their Hungarian sites. Workers are now protected against trips and falls into the concrete pockets, and are no longer reliant on pallets for their safety.
